Elder Abuse Program Evaluator Position
Status: Part Time, Short Term (25 hours week)
Supervisor: Deputy Director
Elders in Action is seeking an enthusiastic self-starter to assess and make recommendations on our current and future processes for addressing issues of older adult victims of crime. This will include working with EIA staff, partner organizations and crime prevention personnel to identify strengths, weaknesses and opportunities of current and potential strategies for intake, facilitation and resolution of issues facing older adult victims of crime and abuse. This position is grant funded and will end in December 2017. Some travel to out of state trainings may be necessary.
As Elders in Action approaches its 20th Anniversary, we are embarking on an organizational review of our vision, mission and goals to ensure that Elders in Action maintains its relevance to a growing and increasingly diverse older adult population in the Portland metro area. The ideal candidate will participate in this effort to ensure Elders in Action is inclusive and representative of the diversity of our elder community.
Scope of Position:
? Review our current procedures for intake of older adult victims of crime, including domestic abuse, fraud and scams and caretaker abuse
? Compare and contrast Elders in Action’s in-house response procedures with those used by partner organizations such as Adult Protective Services, Multnomah County District Senior Centers and non-profits organizations working victims of crime
? Develop proposed recommendations for integrating new intake and assistance procedures for victims of crime
? Develop proposed recommendations for tracking procedures and technological changes in databases that will increase data gathering and reporting
? Conduct interviews and attend workshops with partner organizations such as local domestic violence service providers and members of Inter-Agency Committee for Abuse Prevention (ICAP) to identify techniques and procedures employed by others to assist victims of crime.
? Facilitate a group discussion with professionals in the field to identify gaps in the existing elder abuse system with a view to identifying how volunteers may fill those gaps
? Solicit the participation of staff from partners agencies in presenting at trainings
? Develop training protocols based largely on existing materials gathered from partner organizations
? Prepare and implement training for volunteers and staff as appropriate
? Create prevention education curriculum and train volunteers as community educators
? Recruit and train volunteers to assist with implementation of proposed procedures and activities
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
? Comfort working independently and within teams – employee should be a solution oriented self-starter
? Excellent communication and interpersonal skills – employee will be constantly interacting with staff, partners and volunteers
? Good research and program evaluation skills
? Some experience with service provision for victims of crime
? Experience recruiting and training of volunteers
? Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with people in diverse situations and of varied backgrounds
? Knowledge of the current trends, issues and challenges facing the 60 plus age group
? Experience with Microsoft Office and facility with volunteer databases
? Valid Oregon Driver’s License required for travel in the Metro area.
