Portland Arts Tax does good things but you might be exempt

Did you know that every Portland elementary school now has an arts teacher, thanks to the arts tax?  Portland Arts Tax revenue restores arts & music to schools and brings the arts to life citywide.
Every Portland resident age 18 and older is expected to pay the tax of $35.  But there are exemptions for individuals who are on restricted incomes.  Elders in Action is working with the City of Portland Revenue Division to identify those people and help them apply for their exemption.

These residents may be exempt for the Arts Tax:

  1. You are at least 70 years old or permanently disabled  AND
  2. Your household income is below the federal poverty guidelineOR 
  3. Your only income is social security.
