Communication and Conflict Resolution

In our world, it’s often hard to find a real model of conflict resolution. But, the mark of a true leader is one who can stand strong, build relationships through positive communication while reaching for mutual understanding with respect rather than force or anger.

This year’s Leadership Academy will offer Communication and Conflict Resolution on Tuesday, August 26 by Christina Albo, Director of Programs for Resolutions Northwest.

Healthy communication is vitally important to all aspects of life including business, government, school, community and all forms of advocacy. The truly successful leader knows how to challenge or confront another humbly with sheer grace and respectful consideration.

Christina received a M.A. in Conflict Resolution in 2002. Since, she has been facilitating difficult conversations and training youth and adults in conflict resolution, mediation, facilitation and restorative justice. She is the Director of Programs for Resolutions Northwest, a non-profit organization that has been providing conflict resolution services and education in the Portland Metro Area for over 30 years.

Empowerment and Goals

Among the exciting new speakers is Dan Friess, executive director of Incight, who will be teaching Empowerment and Goals on Tuesday, September 16.

Dan will offer some exciting techniques on how to create the life you want by helping you identify what may be holding you back and how to move beyond it.

This radically new concept in leadership development is based on the latest science to come out of psychology and neurology. It’s a highly effective and proven way to get you where you want to be.

The Leadership Academy will be accepting applications for the 2014 nine-week course through June 30. Take a look at the website and explore more of this year’s exciting speakers.

The academy’s goal is to provide persons with disabilities, through an interactive learning experience, the tools needed to participate as leaders in their local communities. By learning the skills necessary to be informed, involved, and pro-active leaders, students will be better equipped to serve as disability advocates in their local communities and state government.

A team of professional leaders representing local government, business, and educational institutions will present on community involvement, diversity and inclusion, empowerment, goal setting, problem solving, project planning and project completion.

The Leadership Academy is under the direction of Lynda VanDoran, Diversity & Inclusion Manager of Eid Passport, Inc.; and Polly Livingston, Educational Consultant.
